Come and Dine with the King – A Lesson from Matthew 22:1-14

Speaker: Pastor Ronald Nugent

Why are we here? What is our purpose? The Bible teaches us that God made us to worship Him, and to find our deepest happiness in him. Life at its best is living in God’s presence, under his rule, loving him and enjoying him. But we have turned away from him and shut him out of our lives. Come join us as we learn what we must do for him to receive us back.

Providence RPC is organizing another mini-Reformed conference this year on Saturday, June 11, from 1-4 pm. Last year, we had Rev. Dr. Andrew Young. This year, we are privileged to have the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Kim come and speak to us. Dr. Kim is currently the leader of the Mission to the World (MTW) team in Cambodia (MTW is the international missions agency of the Presbyterian Church in America). He is a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary California and Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to his present stint in Cambodia, Dr. Kim and his family served in the Philippines. (For more information on Dr. Kim, look here.)

True to his area of Kingdom work, Dr. Kim will be speaking to us on the topic of missions. A summary of his two talks are as follows:

Seminar I: Grace as Motivation for Missions: This is a reflection on Matthew 5:13-16, exploring our identity in Christ and its implications for our witness to the world.

Seminar II: Eschatology Redefining Our Priorities: This is a reflection on Matthew 6:19-24 recognizing that we live in between the overlap of the ages and its implications in where we invest our time, energy and resources.

The Conference will be held at our church venue. It is free, though an offering would be collected to help defray the costs.

We look forward to seeing you at the Conference.

Peace is the great prize we all seek. In the end, so much of what we do boils down to the pursuit of peace. So we have catch phrases like “peace and serenity” and “peace in my heart” and of course “world peace.” And in a competitive and complex society like ours, our tired and restless souls crave for peace even more. But when we do taste peace, whether at a holiday resort or a quiet restaurant, we find that it fades so quickly away. Is there lasting peace to be found—or are we left with crumbs? The Good News of Easter is that lasting peace is not an illusion. Lasting peace has burst out of the grave. Lasting peace is in Jesus Christ the risen Lord. Come join us at our Easter Sunday Service and know the peace that Jesus brings.

It is Finished!

Many of us know the feeling of leaving things unfinished: An unfinished book; an unfinished assignment; an unfinished project; an unfinished dietary regiment, the list goes on. Some things can be left unfinished and no harm will come (except perhaps our injured pride). But some things left unfinished can bring us great pain and suffering. We live in a universe that is made by a holy and righteous God. In such a world, unfinished goodness and incomplete righteousness can bring unending suffering to others and to ourselves. But on Good Friday, the Lord Jesus finished what most needs to be done—he put away our sins and reconciled us to God. We invite you to join us at our Good Friday Service to learn what the Lord Jesus Christ has finished for you.
